Cost Saving Wedding Tips
Cost Saving Wedding Tips | Military Weddings FAQ | Just Married! Now what do I do?
I have included in this page a do it yourself guide to creating most of your own wedding supplies, which will save you 100's if not 1000's in the long run. Each project has a step by step guide, along with a list of supplies you will need for the project.
Invitations / Reply Cards / Reception Inserts:
Make your own, with just your computer and printer.
What you will need:
Card Stock Paper (Wal-Mart sells this cheap and in many colors)
Business Card Paper (You can find this pretty cheap at Wal-Mart)
Ink for your printer
Print Shop or other program, for creating cards, etc. You can even use MS Word or MS Works instead.
Card Envelopes (again Wal-Mart sells these pretty cheap)
Hole punch and ribbon if you plan to tie a ribbon to the top of each invitation

How I made these:
Invitations:
I used Print Shop to make them. I could fit two invitations on each piece of card stock. Use the Card Template, design on one half the Invitation you want, then copy and paste your design on the other half of the same side of the sheet. This will give you two invitations per page. Once you have your invitation printed and everything is to your liking, find a copier (if you don't have one you can make copies at Staples or Office Max for pretty cheap). Now make as many copies as you need on your card stock paper.
Reply Cards:
Once again I used Print Shop to make these. I was able to fit 4 reply cards onto one sheet, and if I remember correctly I used the Invitation Template.
Reception Inserts:
Again I used Print Shop to make these. I found cheap Business Card Paper at Wal-Mart. I used a business card template in Print Shop to make these and it worked out great.
Wedding Program:
The Purpose of a wedding program identifies and honors everyone participating in the ceremony, it also makes a wonderful keepsake for your guests.
Your certainly not required to have a wedding program, however, it's a great way to add a personal touch to your ceremony. Make sure to include an outline of the wedding ceremony and the order of events, identify the members of the wedding party, the time, date and place of the ceremony, your officiates name, titles of music played or any special readings. Also list the names of your musicians, soloists or readers. Optional items can be included. Such as special "Thank You's" to parents, special messages to the wedding guests, explanations of special religious or ethnic wedding traditions, and/or special poems or readings.
What you will need:
White or Colored Paper
Ink for your printer
Any picture you may want to include

How I made mine:
Print Shop was used as well for this project using the old fashion card template.
Wedding Favors:
We made our own bookmarks and ordered pens that had our wedding date and names imprinted on them. (We ordered our pens through Nation Pen for pretty cheap)
What you will need for the Bookmarks:
Card Stock paper
Ink for your printer
A poem or other saying you want added to your bookmark
Hole punch and ribbon (optional)
Here is a sample of mine:
Bouquet:
We used artificial flowers and had a bridal party get together where myself and all the bridesmaids got together to make them.
What you will need:
Bouquet holder (again your can find these at Wal-Mart for pretty cheap in the craft section)
Hot glue gun and glue (for holding flowers in place)
Artificial Flowers (look at your local dollar store, that is where I found mine and they were beautiful)
Ribbons (if you want streamers hanging from the bouquet)
Throwing of the Birdseeds:
You can make your own birdseed tossers, or use bubbles. We used birdseeds. We did this the same time us girls made the bouquet.
What your will need:
Birdseeds (you can find big bags of this at Wal-Mart for just a couple of dollars)
Tulle
Ribbon
Scissors
Cakes:
Believe it or not you do not need to go to an expensive bakery to get your cakes, just take a look at ours that we ordered from Albertson's of all places. They turned our beautiful and oh so yummy!
